“Pencil and Paper” Part 4 – Week 3

Hi everyone

This week we went back to our childhood and got out all our toys! Toys are a great subject to draw as they come in all sorts of different shapes, sizes, textures and colours.  So there was a lot to challenge us in this one.  You did a fantastic job with these drawings, particularly with showing the different textures and describing the shape and form of the toys.  Really cheerful, lovely drawings everyone, well done!

Here are some photos of this weeks work.  For more photos visit our instagram page @leedsartgroup.

See you soon.

“Pencil and Paper” Part 4 – Week 2

Hi folks

This week we took a very familiar shape and really looked closely at it to allow ourselves the chance to carefully observe what we can see.  When we draw a shape that we know well it’s easy to draw what we think it looks like rather than what is actually there.  Well done to all of you for really looking at the subject this week and paying close attention to all the subtle details that we sometimes overlook.  Great drawings everyone.

See you next week.

“Pencil and Paper” Part 4 – Week 1

Hi everyone

First week back after our break and you’ve done some great drawings to kick off the new term.  This week’s theme was “Breakfast” but what we were really looking at was ellipses, shading, tones and how images (on the cereal box) become distorted when turned at an angle.  This was a great exercise in observation and drawing what you can see in front of you and you all did brilliantly.  A fantastic start to the new course and I can’t wait to see what else you can do!

You can all give yourselves a pat on the back this week too as 10% of your course fees have been donated to St Gemma’s Hopice in Leeds who provide palliative care.  Together you’ve raised £90.  So not only have you done some fantastic drawings you’ve also helped others when they need it most – so that’s two things to feel good about!  For more information about St Gemma’s and that work they do please visit their website at: www.st-gemma.co.uk.

“Pencil and Paper” Part 3 – Week 5 & new courses starting August 2020!

Hi everyone

For the final week of this course we looked at contrasts in tone, texture, shape, size, etc. and we put them all together in one box!  This task called on everything you’ve learned over the past few weeks to show all those different objects in relation to each other.  You all did a brilliant job!   The effort and enthusiasm you’ve put into each of the tasks has been fantastic and I couldn’t have asked for more from you during these online courses.  Thank you!  Here are some photos of this weeks work.  For more photos visit our instagram page @leedsartgroup.

Time for a couple of weeks off now but the next online courses will be starting on Monday 24th August 2020, so get in touch if you would like to book a place.  Full course details can be found on the Courses for 2020 page by clicking here.  If you have any questions you can contact me by email at:  leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk or tel:  07788 871286.

“Pencil and Paper” Part 3 – Week 4 & new courses starting August 2020!

Hi folks

A really tricky challenge this week – reflective objects.  Observation is key in this task in order to spot all the different shapes and tones within the reflections.  You all rose to the challenge and did a great job.  I think the next time you encounter a reflective object in your drawings you’ll know exactly how to handle it.  Great work everyone!  For more photos of this weeks work, visit our instagram page @leedsartgroup.

Next week is the last lesson of the current courses and then we’ll have a short break but the next online courses will be starting on Monday 24th August 2020, so get in touch if you would like to book a place.  Full course details can be found on the Courses for 2020 page by clicking here.  If you have any questions you can contact me by email at:  leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk or tel:  07788 871286.

For full course details go to the Courses for 2020 page.

If you have any questions or would like to book a place on a course please get in touch by either email:leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk or telephone: 07788 871286.

“Pencil and Paper” Part 3 – Week 3

Hi everyone

Some fantastic drawings this week!  A bag was our subject this week and what amazing drawings you all managed to create from such an everyday object.  I’m so impressed with the drawings you are producing and I can see you are really observing your subjects and putting all that tone practice from last week into good use.  Brilliant work everyone, keep it up! For more photos of this weeks work, visit our instagram page @leedsartgroup.

See you next week for another challenge!

“Pencil and Paper” Part 3 – Week 2

Hi folks

This week we were letting our imagination loose on these illuminated letters.  Your task was to explore all the different tones and marks you could make with just pencil.  Well done everyone, you created such a wide range of both tones and marks in your drawings.  Great work!  Below are some photos of your work and there are more on our instagram page @leedsartgroup.

See you soon.

“Pencil and Paper” Part 3 – Week 1

Hi everyone

Welcome back to a new term of “Pencil and Paper” Part 3.  We started the course with a classic – still life using natural forms.  We were mainly focusing on shape and proportions and you all did a fantastic job.  Great work everyone and a really good start to the course.  Below are some photos of your work and there are more on our instagram page @leedsartgroup.

I’m also pleased to say that through 10% of your course fees going towards Hope Pastures Animal Sanctuary, together we’ve raised £87.50 for all the horses, ponies and donkeys.  It’s nice to think they might be getting an extra carrot this week thanks to us.    One of our Leeds Art Group members (Sally) volunteers at the sanctuary and passed on their thanks as they have had a big drop in their funds since having to close their gates to the public.  So a big thank you to all you lovely people on behalf of the animals!  For further information about Hope Pastures please visit their website at:  www.hopepastures.org.

See you next week.

“Pencil and Paper”Part 2 – Week 5

Hi folks

For the final lesson of this course we were drawing the view from our window and looking at what marks we could use to describe the shapes and textures we can see.  Some lovely, expressive drawings this week, well done.  It’s been great for me this week, getting the chance to see what you can see out of your windows and I know you’ve been enjoying seeing each others gardens and streets on the WhatsApp group too.  Here are some photos of your work and there are more on our instagram page @leedsartgroup.

As we come to the end of this current course and are about to start Part 3 on Monday, I’d just like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of you who have joined the online lessons over the past 10 weeks (yes, it really has been that long!).  Without seeing you all on a Monday I’m quite sure I would have gone stir crazy by now.  So I hope the lessons have helped you all through this a little bit because you’ve definitely helped me.  Thank you.

Looking forward to starting the next course on Monday.  Cheerio!

Wendy
