Courses for 2020

The following courses and workshop will be running from February 2020 and are open to anyone over 18 years of age.  Scroll down for further details on each course.  The closing date for course applications is 14th February 2020 and 3rd February 2020 for Klimt workshop applications (courses/workshops may fill up before this time).

All courses are taught at:  Headingley Parish Hall, St Michaels Rd, Leeds, LS6 3AW.

The courses and workshop will be taught by Leeds based artist Wendy Atton B A (Hons).  Wendy specialises in animal portraiture but please note that, unless specified, the course/workshop will not be based on animal portraiture.  If you would like to view Wendy’s work please visit her website at http://www.wendyatton.co.uk.

Each course runs for 6 weeks and the workshop is 1 day only.  Places will be limited so please apply early. Gustav Klimt Pattern Workshop

In this one day workshop we will use the work of Gustav Klimt as inspiration for our own patterns.  We will use a combination of different water based media, pen and collage to create unique pieces of work.  This workshop is ideal for anyone who loves pattern, colour, detail and a good helping of gold!

Monday 10th February 2020

10.00am – 2.30pm.  With a break from 12.00pm – 1.00pm

Beginners Birds Drawing Course

In this course we will use images of the birds we see in our gardens and around the UK as inspiration for drawings and paintings.  Each week we will focus on a different bird and use different media.  We will explore a range of materials and techniques and use a series of simple steps to build up a picture.  This course is designed for beginners and is ideal for anyone with a love of birds or who would like to improve their drawing/painting skills whilst experimenting with a variety of materials.

Course duration: 6 weeks

Course price:  £60 (this includes all materials)

Course starts:  24th February 2020

Times: Mondays 10.00am – 12.00pm

 

Beginners Drawing Course Level 1

In this course you will learn about the basic aspects of drawing including, proportion, shading and composition.  You will work from a range of different subjects, both natural and manmade.  You will learn how to draw from both two dimensional images and three dimensional objects.  The course aims to provide you with a broad and varied experience and ultimately at the end of the course you will have acquired skills which you can continue to develop.

This course is designed for beginners and is perfect for anyone who has always wanted to have a go at drawing but didn’t know where to start.

Course duration: 6 weeks

Course price:  £60 (this includes all materials)

Course starts:  24th February 2020

Times: Mondays 6.30pm – 8.30pm

 

Beginners Portraiture Course Level 1

In this course you will learn how to build up a portrait using a variety of techniques.  We will look at the portrait as a whole and also focus on facial features individually, using different methods to create a portrait step by step.  We will work both from photographs and from life models.  You will experiment with a range of different media such as pencil, pen, soft pastel etc.  All materials will be provided during the lessons.

Course duration: 6 weeks

Course price:  £60 (this includes all materials)

Course starts:  26th February 2020

Times: Wednesdays 10.00am – 12.00pm

 

Beginners Animal Portraiture Course 2 – CANCELLED

In this course you will learn how to draw a variety of animals e.g. leopard, wolf, etc. in a wide range of media (pencil, paint, pastel, etc.) from photographs. Each week we will tackle a different animal and use a series of simple steps to gradually build up a picture. The course will give you the basic skills you need to help you continue with your drawings in the future.

This course is designed for beginners and is ideal for animal lovers or anyone who would like to improve their drawing/painting skills whilst experimenting with a variety of materials.

Please note: You do not need to have completed the Beginners Animal Portraiture Course 1 in order to do this course.  The ability level is the same but the course content will be different.

Times: Thursdays 10.00am – 12.00pm
