Courses for 2019

The following courses will be running from 23rd September 2019 and are open to anyone over 18 years of age.  Scroll down for further details on each course.  The closing date for applications is 13th September 2019 (courses may fill up before this time).

All courses are taught at:  Headingley Parish Hall, St Michaels Rd, Leeds, LS6 3AW.

The courses will be taught by Leeds based artist Wendy Atton B A (Hons).  Wendy specialises in animal portraiture but please note that, unless specified, the course will not be based on animal portraiture.  If you would like to view Wendy’s work please visit her website at http://www.wendyatton.co.uk.

Each course runs for 7 lessons over 8 weeks.  Places will be limited so please apply early. “Places” – Beginners Mixed Media Course

A “Place” could be anywhere from a tropical rainforest to an industrial landscape to the cupboard under the kitchen sink. This course provides a broad topic with which to explore a wide range of techniques and materials including, pencil, charcoal, paint etc.  Working from photographs, each week we will use a different “place” as our subject and use a series of simple steps to gradually build up a picture.

This course is designed for beginners and is ideal for anyone who would like to improve their drawing/painting skills whilst experimenting with a variety of materials.

Please note:  This course is repeated on Mondays.  Please specify when booking, which time slot you require – morning or evening.

Course duration: 7 lessons over 8 weeks (no lessons on Monday 28th October 2019)

Course price:  £65 (this includes all materials)

Course starts:  23rd September 2019

Times: Mondays 10.00am – 12.00pm – spaces still remaining

Mondays 6.30pm – 8.30pm – This course is now FULL

 

 

Beginners Drawing Course Level 2

In this course you will learn how to create drawings from start to finish using a range of different techniques. You will explore proportion, shading and composition using a variety of subjects, both natural and manmade, and from 2D as well as 3D sources. You will experiment with different methods of drawing to develop your skills. You will look at some of the basic aspects of drawing and learn how they can be applied to tackle more complicated objects. The course aims to provide you with a broad and varied experience and ultimately at the end of the course you will have acquired skills which you can continue to develop.  Some previous drawing experience would be beneficial but not essential.

Please note this is not the same course as the previous Beginners Drawing Course Level 1. The lessons and course content will be different. It is a “stand alone” course and therefore you do not need to have completed the previous course first.

Course duration: 7 lessons over 8 weeks (no lesson on Wednesday 30th October 2019)

Course price:  £65 (this includes all materials)

Course starts:  25th September 2019

Time:  Wednesdays 10.00am – 12.00pm – spaces still remaining

 

 

Beginners Watercolour Painting Course 2

In this course you will start with the basics of watercolour painting including colour mixing, brush control and how to build up a picture using different techniques.  You will work from a range of two dimensional and three dimensional subjects to practise these techniques.  The aim of the course is to provide a starting point for the complete beginner from which to develop their painting skills and subsequently be able to continue to progress independently following the course.

Please note: You do not need to have completed the Beginners Watercolour Painting Course 1 in order to do this course.  The ability level is the same but the course content will be different.

Course duration: 7 lessons over 8 weeks (no lesson on Thursday 31st October 2019)

Course price:  £65 (this includes all materials)

Course starts:  26th September 2019

Times: Thursdays 10.00am – 12.00pm – spaces still remaining
