“Inspired 6” week 5

Hi everyone

For our final lesson in the “Inspired 6” course we looked at the work of Sybil Andrews, a linocut artist working in the 1930s. We used layers of watercolour paint to create these pictures and tried to convey the sense of movement that she uses in her work. What a great finish to the course everyone! We’ve covered a lot in the past few weeks and I hope you are all really proud of everything you’ve achieved.

The online live Draw Alongs start next week and full details can be found on the Courses for 2022 page here. Please get in touch if you would like to book a place by email: leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk or tel: 07788 871286.

Below are some of this week’s pictures and you can see more on our Instagram page at: @leedsartgroup.

Hope to see you all soon.

“Inspired 6” week 4

Hi folks

The past few days have been great weather for staying indoors and drawing hummingbirds. Our inspiration this week was zoologist and artist Ernst Haeckel who created a series of drawings based on nature. We created these beautifully delicate hummingbird drawings using coloured pencil. It was nice to really get to grips with some detail and precision this week and it looks like you enjoyed it. Well done everyone!

“Inspired 6” week 3

Hi everyone

Time for a bit of colour this week in the “Inspired 6” course and the work of Georgia O’Keeffe provided our inspiration. We used oil pastel to create these vibrant pictures and really focused on colour mixing, blending and contrasting. Fantastic work everyone! Oil pastel isn’t the easiest medium to get to grips with but you all did great.

“Inspired 6” week 2

Hi folks

This week in the “Inspired 6” course we looked at “The Brooch” – a lithograph by Edvard Munch from 1903. We used water soluble graphite sticks to create all those sweeping curves of the hair and expressive, scratchy marks. The graphite magically turns into paint when you add water. It’s a great medium to use, hope you all enjoyed it.

See you next week
