“Pencil and Paper” Part 4 – Week 4 & new courses starting October 2020!

Hi everyone

This week we were concentrating on the small things in life.  Taking small objects of any description and drawing them larger than life.  This was a chance to practice using your observation skills to notice all those tiny details that can sometimes be overlooked in larger drawings.  You produced some fantastic drawings with really interesting objects and compositions.  Great work everyone! For more photos of this weeks work, visit our instagram page @leedsartgroup.

Next week is the last lesson of the current courses and then we’ll have a short break but the next online courses “Inspired” Online Beginners Art Course will be starting on Monday 12th October 2020 and this time we’ll get to use some colour!  So get in touch if you would like to book a place.  Full course details can be found on the Courses for 2020 page by clicking here.  If you have any questions you can contact me by email at:  leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk or tel:  07788 871286.

See you soon

New courses starting 12th October 2020!

Hi everyone

The following online courses will be running from Monday 12th October 2020.  The closing date for payments is 8th October 2020.

“Inspired”: Online Beginners Art Course – Morning course: 10.00am – 10.30am

“Inspired”: Online Beginners Art Course – Evening course: 6.30pm – 7.00pm

Please specify which time slot you would like when booking.

The courses will run for 7 weeks and cost £35These courses are free to any NHS employees as a thank you for helping us get through all this.  Just send me a photo of your staff card when you book.  10% of all course fees will be donated to The Trussell Trust who provide vital food banks across the UK and are anticipating a huge increase in demand this winter due to the coronavirus situation.  For further information, visit their website at: www.trusselltrust.org.

In this course we will look at other works of art and used them as inspiration for our own artwork creations.  This may mean recreating all or part of a picture or simply using it as reference for our own ideas and interpretation. This course is designed for beginners but would be suitable for all abilities.

Materials

The course will explore a range of different media including pencil, watercolour, pastel etc.  Alternative media suggestions will be given for each lesson, so if you don’t have the specific materials used in the example, you will still be able to have a go at the tasks.  The bare minimum you will need for the course are a pencil and something to create colour.  A full list of materials used in the lessons will be included in the booking details.

Lessons

The lessons will be delivered via a 30 minute online live chat/demonstration in which I will explain each task and you will be able to ask any questions.  We will use “Zoom”, an online web conferencing program and you will be sent a link on how to download this with your booking confirmation.  Zoom is free and you don’t need to set up an account.  You will be sent a link before the start of the course which can be used each week to take you straight to the lesson.

Recorded video

Following the lesson you will also receive a link to a 30 minute recorded video of the whole picture being created by myself from start to finish in time lapse together with instructions along the way.

Information sheets

I will also email you an information sheet following the lesson with step by step instructions on how to create the picture.

Feedback/advice

Once you have produced your picture I would be happy to receive any photos of your work via email, text or WhatsApp and would gladly offer any advice or feedback that you might require.

Showing off

At Leeds Art Group we do like to show off our wonderful creations!  So if you send me a photo of your work there’s a good chance I will put it on our website or our Instagram page @leedsartgroup.  If you’d prefer me not to do this, just let me know.  Or if you’d prefer to do your own showing off then you can join the Leeds Art Group WhatsApp group so that you can all post your masterpieces on there whenever you like and see what the rest of the group are doing.

If you have any questions or would like to book a place please get in touch by either email:leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk or telephone: 07788 871286.

Stay safe and I hope to hear from you soon.

“Pencil and Paper” Part 4 – Week 3

Hi everyone

This week we went back to our childhood and got out all our toys! Toys are a great subject to draw as they come in all sorts of different shapes, sizes, textures and colours.  So there was a lot to challenge us in this one.  You did a fantastic job with these drawings, particularly with showing the different textures and describing the shape and form of the toys.  Really cheerful, lovely drawings everyone, well done!

“Pencil and Paper” Part 4 – Week 2

Hi folks

This week we took a very familiar shape and really looked closely at it to allow ourselves the chance to carefully observe what we can see.  When we draw a shape that we know well it’s easy to draw what we think it looks like rather than what is actually there.  Well done to all of you for really looking at the subject this week and paying close attention to all the subtle details that we sometimes overlook.  Great drawings everyone.

See you next week.

“Pencil and Paper” Part 4 – Week 1

Hi everyone

First week back after our break and you’ve done some great drawings to kick off the new term.  This week’s theme was “Breakfast” but what we were really looking at was ellipses, shading, tones and how images (on the cereal box) become distorted when turned at an angle.  This was a great exercise in observation and drawing what you can see in front of you and you all did brilliantly.  A fantastic start to the new course and I can’t wait to see what else you can do!

You can all give yourselves a pat on the back this week too as 10% of your course fees have been donated to St Gemma’s Hopice in Leeds who provide palliative care.  Together you’ve raised £90.  So not only have you done some fantastic drawings you’ve also helped others when they need it most – so that’s two things to feel good about!  For more information about St Gemma’s and that work they do please visit their website at: www.st-gemma.co.uk.
