Beginners Courses – Week 5 & New Courses for 2018!

Hi everyone

In lesson 5  the Portraiture course looked at ears – an element of portraiture that often gets overlooked as if they are less important than the other features – not so!  We also practised drawing hair and using tone to create the impression of three dimensional form.  In the Nature course we drew sections of a photo of conkers using watercolour pencils.  A tricky medium and one that takes a bit of practise but worth the effort.  The Drawing course did some timed drawings to help work out how to put together a drawing from scratch.  Well done everyone.

The dates for next terms courses have now been confirmed and full details can be viewed on our “Courses for 2018” page.  If you have any questions about any of the courses or you would like to book a place then please get in touch either by phone on 07788 871286 or email: leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk.

See you soon.

Beginners Courses – Week 4

Hi folks

Halfway through the courses and loads of great work produced already.  This week the Portraiture course worked on eyes – possibly the most important part of a portrait.  The Nature course made some drawings of mussel shells using Indian ink and sticks on a prepared, coloured background.  In the Drawing course we looked at accuracy and how using grids can help to improve proportion skills.  Brilliant work everyone!

Don’t forget there are no classes next week.  Lessons will resume on Monday 30th October.

Enjoy the break and I’ll see you back in class soon.

Beginners Courses – Week 3

Hi everyone

This week the Beginners Portraiture Course focused on noses and used both pencil and soft pastel to show the subtle changes in tone.  In the Beginners Drawing from Nature Course we took advantage of all the gorgeous, autumnal colours we have around at the moment and drew leaves using oil pastels.  The Beginners Drawing Course 1 looked at scale and how to enlarge small objects to create really dramatic charcoal drawings.  Well done everyone, another fantastic week of drawings!

See you all next week.

Beginners Courses – week 2

Hi folks

Here we are in only week 2 of the courses and you are producing some exceptional work.  I’ve loved seeing your drawings this week.  From detailed observations of mouths in the Beginners Portraiture Course to gorgeous Hydrangea pastel drawings in the Beginners Drawing from Nature Course and to compositions of manmade objects in the Beginners Drawing Course 1.  You’re all doing brilliantly and I’m really pleased with how well you are all tackling the different tasks each week.

Looking forward to yet more wonderful creations next week.

New Term September 2017 – Beginners Courses – week 1

Welcome back everyone!

Great to see so many new faces too this term.  Many enthusiastic faces and many terrified faces too.  Don’t be frightened, you’ve done the hard bit already.  Now just enjoy the rest of the course.  We’ll be working on those confidence levels throughout the next 7 weeks.  If the first lesson’s standard is anything to go by then I’m sure that you’re all going to do great.  Here are some photos from week 1 of the Beginners Portraiture Course, the Beginners Drawing from Nature Course and the Beginners Drawing Course 1.

A fantastic start everyone!  See you all next week.

Drawing Course Level 3 – Week 7

Hi Everyone

Sadly this week was the last lesson for the current term.  We looked at water this week and used shape and tone to indicate the many varied ways it can behave.  It was nice to see you all loosen up a bit for your graphite stick drawings.  I think they all looked great together.

It’s been an absolute pleasure teaching you all this term, I hope you’ve enjoyed it.    Thank you so much for all your hard work.  Courses for next term are now starting to fill up so please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

For further information on courses running from September, go to the “Courses for 2017” page where you will find all the details and how to book a place.  There will be a brand new course starting in September – “Beginners Drawing From Nature Course”.  If you have any questions about the courses or if you would like to book a place then please get in touch by phone: 07788 871286 or email: leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk.

Enjoy the rest of your summer everyone and I hope to see you all back in class in September.

Cheerio!

Drawing Course Level 3 – Week 6

Hi folks

I think this weeks lesson was one of the toughest yet.  We focused on lots of different textures, from soft, fluffy teddy bears to rough, jagged rocks and we had to think carefully about the marks and tones we could use to portray those textures on paper.  You all made a fantastic job of it too!  I could not ask for more effort or concentration from you all.  Thank you so much for all your hard work each week.  One more lesson to go and then we break for our summer hols.

See you all next week.

Drawing Course Level 3 – Week 5

Hi Everyone

Our focus for this week was negative space.  This meant looking carefully at all the spaces between things that often get forgotten in a drawing.  Having to draw the faces behind the leaves was a real test of how accurately you had drawn your negative spaces but you all did really well and are continuing to impress me every week with how well you handle all the tasks I give you.  Great work everyone!  We have 2 more weeks left of lessons before we break up but if you would like to see what courses will be running from September then go to the “Courses for 2017” page where you will find all the details and how to book a place.  There will be a brand new course starting in September – “Beginners Drawing From Nature Course”.  If you have any questions about the courses or if you would like to book a place then please get in touch by phone: 07788 871286 or email: leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk.

See you all next week.

Drawing Course Level 3 – Week 4

Hi folks

This week we focused on proportion and it was great to see how you all got stuck in right from the start and really considered and compared all those spaces and distances.  It definitely paid off as you all produced drawings with accurate proportion.  Fantastic work!  I hope you’re all pleased with your progress so far – you’re doing great!

See you all next week.

Drawing Course Level 3 – Week 3

Hi Everyone

This week we looked at perspective and how understanding the basic principles can help us to create the impression of 3 dimensional objects on our 2 dimensional paper.  Just like last week, you really had to think about this one as it can get really confusing with all those lines meeting at the vanishing points.  You all did great though and I was very impressed with how well you all picked it up.  Sorry, there aren’t any photos from this week (silly me forgot to take any) but if anyone wants to email me a photo of what we did in class then I will post it on here.  We’ll be working on proportion next week, so don’t forget your small objects to draw.

See you soon.

Wendy
