Beginners Courses – Week 5

Hi everyone

In the Beginners Animal Portraiture Course 3 this week we painted these fantastic frogs using watercolour.  A difficult medium to get the hang of but you all produced some brilliant paintings. The Beginners Drawing Course Level 1 did some timed drawings to focus on how to build up a picture from start to finish.  Fabulous work once again – keep it up!

See you all next week

Beginners Courses – Week 4

Hi folks

This week the Beginners Animal Portraiture Course 3 used soft pastels to create these colourful bee drawings. In the Beginners Drawing Course Level 1 we drew from photos of Italian statues to practise shading in different tones. We’re already halfway through the courses and I’m really pleased with how well you’re all doing.  You should be starting to feel a bit more confident about your drawings now.

See you soon.

Beginners Courses – Week 3

Hi everyone

In the Beginners Animal Portraiture Course 3 this week we used sticks to apply Indian ink to our prepared backgrounds and created these really effective drawings of lobsters. The Beginners Drawing Course Level 1 worked on scale this week and used both charcoal and white pastel to produce enlarged drawings of natural forms.  Brilliant work this week, hope you all enjoyed it.

Express Bi-folding Doors are holding an art competition if anyone is interested in entering.  All the details can be found on their website by clicking here.  There are cash prizes and potential for exhibiting but be quick if you want to enter as the closing date is 12th July (you just need to send a photo of your work to enter).

See you next week.

Beginners Courses – Week 2

Hi folks

This week the Beginners Animal Portraiture Course 3 created stunning pictures of Tigers using black biro and coloured pencil.  The Beginners Drawing Course Level 1 continued with their still life theme but this time using manmade objects as the subject and concentrating on proportion.  Great pictures everyone.  Next week’s lessons could be a bit messy for everyone so remember to bring something to cover up.

See you next week.

Beginners Courses – Week 1

Hi everyone!

It’s good to see you all back in class again after our little break and great to see so many new faces this term aswell.  I could see some of you were a little bit nervous at starting this new “arty thing” but don’t worry, your confidence will grow throughout the course and you’ll learn to relax and just enjoy drawing.

The Beginners Animal Portraiture Course 3 started as we mean to go on by getting very messy with charcoal and producing these beautiful drawings of Rhinos.  The Beginners Drawing Course Level 1 drew from still life using natural forms and using tone to give the pictures depth.  A brilliant start to the term everyone!

Looking forward to next week.

Beginners Courses – Week 7 and New Courses starting June 2019!

Hi folks

For our final week of the current term the Beginners Animal Portraiture Course 1 created fantastic, oil pastel parrots.  In the Beginners Birds Drawing Course we used Inktense blocks to make colourful drawings of goldfinches.   For the Beginners Portraiture Course Level 2 we had 2 life models to pose for us (thanks to Harry and Abbie) and used watercolour to produce several paintings.  A great finish to the term!

I’ve loved seeing all the amazing artwork you’ve produced this term but it won’t be too long before the next term starts on 17th June and we can get cracking on all sorts of new and wonderful works of art!

Gustav Klimt Pattern Workshop

Hi everyone

I’m so excited to show off the patterns you all produced in today’s Gustav Klimt Pattern Workshop – a first for Leeds Art Group.  Wow, what an explosion of colour, pattern and creativity!  It was fantastic seeing how different everyone’s work was and each one of them a wonderful piece of art.  You all really embraced the concept today and I hope you all enjoyed it.  I’m already thinking up ideas for future Pattern Workshops, so watch this space!  A big thank you to everyone who helped me out today with setting up and packing away.  I couldn’t have done it without your help today and I really appreciate it.

No classes for the rest of this week but classes will resume in the week commencing Monday 13th May.

See you next week.

Beginners Courses – Week 5

Hi folks

After our week off it was good to give those drawing skills a good work out with some timed drawings.  The Beginners Animal Portraiture Course 1 had meerkats as their subject and produced a series of lively sketches in pencil and pen.  The Beginners Birds Drawing Course did some similar timed exercises but with blue tits as the subject, using soft pastel.  These quick, spontaneous drawings are good practice if you intend to draw from life.  The Beginners Portraiture Course Level 2 used inktense blocks and experimented with colour mixing to create these dramatic portraits.  Great work everyone.

Don’t forget, the courses have another week off next week and classes will resume in the week commencing Monday 13th May.  In the meantime, I’ll see some of you on the Gustav Klimt Pattern Workshop on Monday 6th May – looking forward to it!

See you all soon.

Beginners Courses – Week 4 & New Gustav Klimt Pattern Workshop

Hi everyone

The Beginners Animal Portraiture Course 1 used soft pastel to draw this lovely, mucky pig this week.  Pastel is a messy business and difficult to control but you all did really well with it.  In the Beginners Birds Drawing Course we used oil pastels to create the gorgeous, vibrant colours of bullfinches.  The Beginners Portraiture Course Level 2 used fineliner pen and a cross hatching technique to show tone in these fantastic portraits.  Brilliant work everyone!

I’m pleased to announce a brand new 1 day pattern workshop based on the work of Gustav Klimt on Monday 6th May 2019 10.00am – 2.30pm.  For full details please go to the Courses for 2019 page or click here.  Places are filling up fast so get in touch if you would like to book a place.   Tel: 07788 871286 or email leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk or use our “Contact” page.

Don’t forget there are no classes next week as we have a break for Easter but we are back in class from Monday 29th April.

Have a great Easter weekend and I’ll see you all soon.
