Time for some colour this week! We based these fantastic pictures on African printed textiles and used watercolour and collage to create big and bold patterns. I’ve loved seeing all your bright, vibrant patterns this week. They’re enough to cheer anyone up on a rainy afternoon. Well done everyone!

Well as it’s week 2, I thought we must all be ready to take on a true master – Leonardo da Vinci! We based these charcoal drawings on one of his paintings – “La Scapigliata” from 1506. This one was a real challenge because there’s no room for error. Even the smallest changes make a huge difference in something like this. But you did not let me down and you’ve created some beautiful drawings this week. Well done everyone for rising to the challenge!

A big thank you to everyone currently taking part in Leeds Art Group online courses. By donating 10% of your course fees we have together raised £105.00 for Yorkshire Wildlife Trust who work hard to look after this wonderful county and the creatures in it. It’s great to know that Leeds Art Group are doing our bit to help them out. Hi everyone
Great to have you all back after a week off between courses. We kicked off the new term with these watercolour paintings based on a painting by Paul Klee called “The Harbinger of Autumn”. Difficult to think about Autumn with the soaring temperatures outside at the moment but well done to all of you who managed to produce these fantastic pictures using a layering technique to build up the colours. A great start to the course everybody. Looking forward to next week.

Hi everyone
This week the “Inspired 4” course created these colourful and intricate paintings based on printmaker and illustrator Hannah Firmin. For the “Pencil and Paper 2” course, I asked you to draw the view from your window in a quick sketching style. What a great way to finish the current courses! The work you’ve produced over the past few weeks has been absolutely wonderful and a pleasure to see. Thank you to all of you for putting in so much effort. I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have.

As the rain pours down outside my window I’m so glad I’ve got all your vibrant, colourful pictures to brighten my day. This week the artist Franz Marc was inspiring us in the “Inspired 4” course with his paintings of animals in every colour going! In the “Pencil and Paper 2” course we tackled ellipses, tone, proportion and detail – all wrapped up in one tin. Fantastic work everyone – keep it up!
We’ve got one more week of the current courses before a short break but we will return with the “Inspired 5” course and the “Pencil & Paper 3” course starting in the week commencing Monday 7th June. Hi everyone
Nice to see you all again after our week off. I’ve really enjoyed all the beautiful photos you’ve been sending me this week. In the “Inspired 4” course we continued the Art Deco theme but in a very different way with these colourful watercolour paintings based on Clarice Cliff pottery. In the “Pencil and Paper 2” course we looked at different types of fastenings and used tone to create the impression of overlapping.
Another week of great pictures everyone. Looking forward to next week’s masterpieces.

This week the “Inspired 4” course went all Art Deco with these paintings based on the work of Tamara de Lempicka from the 1920s/1930s. A tough task but a great way to practice blending from one tone to another. The “Pencil and Paper 2” course used plants as their subject and focused on observing how leaves overlapping can create different shapes and tones.
Fantastic work everyone! It may be a typically wet bank holiday Monday but it’s perfect weather for being indoors and getting arty.
No classes this week but I’ll see you all when lessons resume in the week commencing Monday 10th May.

Hi everyone
It’s so good to have you all back after a couple of weeks break. It feels like spring has sprung since our last lesson. So what better way to start the “Inspired 4” course than with these roses based on a painting by Renoir? We focused on colour mixing and creating contrasts. The “Pencil & Paper 2” course started by drawing chairs and looking at all the negative spaces inbetween the spindles and legs as well as how the light falls on the object.
A brilliant start to the course everyone! I can’t wait to see what else you can do.
