Online Draw Alongs in March 2024

Hi everyone

I will be holding the following “Draw Along” sessions via Zoom.  Both these Draw Alongs use the same materials (see below).

DAFFODIL

Date: Wednesday 20th March 2024

Evening session:  6pm – 7.30pm         Payment ref: DAFF

Subject:  “Daffodil”.

Price per session: £7

Closing date for payments:  Monday 18th March 2024

HARE

Date: Wednesday 27th March 2024

Evening session:  6pm – 7.30pm         Payment ref: HARE

Subject:  “Hare”.

Price per session: £7

Closing date for payments:  Monday 25th March 2024

Materials needed:

A4 grey/mid-tone pastel paper/card (if you don’t have pastel paper, the grey/brown side of a cereal packet will work – that’s what I’ll be using during the lesson).

Soft pastels (NOT oil pastels – they work very differently) – I’ll be using a set of 24 Inscribe pastels.

HB pencil, putty rubber/kneadable eraser.  Also, a cloth to clean your hands might be useful.

Blending tools such as a paper stump, tortillion or cotton bud may also be useful.

A charcoal pencil/black pastel pencil/dark graphite pencil would be useful for the “Hare” Draw Along.

If anyone needs any advice on materials please get in touch.

The camera will give a view of my hands throughout the sessions so you will be able to see my picture taking shape whilst creating your own at the same time.

Please contact me if you would like to book a place so I can send you the booking details.  Payment can be made by bank transfer or cheque.  If you already have my online payment details please use the correct reference when paying.  Payments for both sessions can be made as a single total payment but please indicate this either in the reference or by email. Please drop me an email when you have paid so that I can confirm receipt and book you on the correct session.

I will email the Zoom meeting link to everyone after the relevant closing date along with the image to draw from.  The image can be printed out if you wish or you can display it in a window on your screen during the session.

If you have any questions or would like to book a place please get in touch.   If you no longer wish to receive these emails please reply to this email with the subject heading “Unsubscribe”.

Hope to see you soon.

Beginners Courses – week 6

Hi folks

In the “Beginners Portraiture Course 1” this week we finally got to put everything together in a complete face with the added difficulty of drawing children. Children’s faces have slightly different proportions to adults so there was a lot to think about. More challenges to come next week but you are all doing great. Well done.

Below are some of this week’s pictures and you can see more on our Instagram page at: @leedsartgroup.

Beginners Courses

Hi folks

In the “Beginners Portraiture Course 1” this week we looked at not 1 but 2 different aspects of portraiture – ears and hair. Just like noses, drawing ears is largely about tone and carefully observing all those wavy lines. Hair gave us another tonal challenge where we had to observe tone rather than colour and really try to see how the light falls on the hair. A difficult task but you did great!

The “Inspired 9” Online Beginners Art Course looked at Canada based artist Rob Buchanan this week and his artwork “Mona Skisa”. Rob recreates famous artworks using recycled skis and snowboards. Most of us don’t have those materials to hand so we used watercolour and collage instead with some really effective results. Well done everyone!

Beginners Courses

Hi everyone

This week the “Beginners Portraiture Course 1 focused on eyes. Arguably the most important part of a portrait and worth some close observation. Quite a difficult task this week and especially where glasses are involved but you did not let me down. Fantastic work!

In the “Inspired 9” Online Beginners Art Course we looked at totem art in the traditional style of the indigenous nations of Alaska and Canada. Such intricate patterns/shapes all combining to fill the page and tell a story. Great work everyone!

“Inspired 9” online beginners art course – week 3

Hi folks

This week in the “Inspired 9” Online Beginners Art Course we looked at the etchings of Giorgio Morandi as inspiration for creating these pen drawings using cross-hatching technique to achieve the different tones. Very time consuming but quite an absorbing technique. You all did a fantastic job! Well done.

It’s the half-term break for the “Beginners Portraiture Course 1” this week but classes will resume on Monday 19th February.

Beginners Courses – week 3

Hi everyone

This week in the “Beginners Portraiture Course 1” we looked at noses. The tricky thing with noses is that there aren’t many definite lines. Most of the work is done just using tone, and soft pastels are perfect for subtle changes in tone. Superb work once again!

The “Inspired 9” Online Beginners Art Course took on one of the big names this week with the paintings of Pablo Picasso. Great to see you all using such bright colours and bold lines with watercolour pencils Fantastic paintings! Well done!

Remember there is no lesson for the Portraiture course next week but we will be back in the classroom on Monday 19th February. The Inspired online course is running as usual on Tuesday 13th February.

Beginners Courses

Hi everyone

Great to be back in class after our Christmas break. The “Beginners Portraiture Course 1” have already explored the structure of the head in week 1 and in week 2 we focused on mouths and using cross hatching technique. We’ll be looking at a different facial feature each week.

Meanwhile the “Inspired 9” Online Beginners Art Course looked at the work of contemporary print artist Sam Marshall. We used oil pastel and a sgraffito technique to create these peacock pictures.

What fantastic drawings you are all doing already! Looking forward to seeing what else you can create throughout the courses.

“Flowers 2” Beginners Course – week 7

Hi folks

As the dark nights are drawing in I thought we could all do with some bright and beautiful sunflowers to lift the spirits. The “Flowers 2 Beginners Mixed Media Course” used watercolour pencils to create these gorgeous pictures. What a lovely finish to the course. I hope you’ve all enjoyed it.

We’ll be taking a little break over the Christmas period but classes will resume at the end of January 2024 and I’ll be sending out the new course details in the next couple of weeks. So watch this space!

In the meantime, remember online lessons are always available on my Patreon page and you can sign up for a 7 day free trial by clicking on this link: https://www.patreon.com/ArtbyWendyAtton608

“Flowers 2” Beginners Course – week 5

Hi folks

Wow! This week the “Flowers 2 Beginners Mixed Media Course” really pulled out all the stops for these amazing paintings of Crocosmia flowers using Derwent Inktense blocks. We used everything we’ve learned so far about proportion, tone, scale and colour mixing. Fantastic work everyone! All your hard work is really paying off.

See you next week.

Beginners courses – week 3

Hi folks

Building on the work we did last week on tone, the “Flowers 2 Beginners Mixed Media Course” used charcoal pencil this time along with white chalk for the highlights. The tonal drawings of Delphiniums looked fantastic against the coloured background. Great work, keep it up!
