Beginners Courses – Week 6, New courses for 2016 & Winter Exhibition!!!

Hi Everyone

I’m pleased to announce our first Leeds Art Group Exhibition will be taking place on Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd November 2015, 10am – 4pm, at Headingley Parish Hall (with a private viewing Friday 20th, 7pm – 9pm for all members and guests) I can’t wait to see how all your pictures will look when they’re displayed together.  So please get your submissions to me as quickly as possible.  It would be great to see something from everone in there.  There will be a couple of stalls including Dinsdales Art Supplies and we will be selling refreshments (any baking contributions are very welcome).  If anyone needs any further information about the exhibition then please don’t hesitate to ask.

Bookings are also being taken for the new courses starting in January.  All the information is on our courses page:  Courses for 2016.

Meanwhile you have all been busy back in class this week after a week off.  I didn’t go easy on you in your first week back either.  I threw some really tough subjects at you:  horses, self-portraits, water/glass distortion and geometric Art Deco patterns.  As always, you came up with the goods.  I hope you’re going to show some of them off in the exhibition.

Well done everyone, another great week of art.

See you soon.

Beginners Courses – Week 5

We’re over halfway through the course now and your drawings/paintings are getting better each week.  It’s great to see your confidence starting to grow.  You’ve exceeded my expectations this week.  I hope you’re all proud of the fantastic pictures you’re producing.

Don’t forget that next week is half term so there are no classes.  Lessons will start again in week commencing November 2nd.

In the meantime, keep practising and there are a couple of events on over half term that you might be interested.

The Big Draw – events being held all over the country (many free) and several in the Leeds area, to get people of all ages drawing.  Visit their website for more details: www.thebigdraw.org

St Gemma’s Hospice Art Exhibition & Sale – 29th October – 1st November.  Visit their website for further details: www.st-gemma.co.uk/artexhibition

Enjoy the break and I’ll see you all soon.

Beginners Courses – Week 4

Hi folks, this week we’ve certainly travelled.  We were down on the farm with the Beginners Animal Portraiture Course, appreciating the statues of Italy with the Beginners Drawing Course 1, back in time to look at the Art Nouveau of the 1900’s with the Beginners Pattern Course and the Beginners Drawing Course 2 even journeyed into negative space!  I’m exhausted just thinking about it.  Hope you’ve all enjoyed this week as much as I have.  You’re all coming up with some fantastic drawings and paintings.  Now is the time to start believing in yourselves a bit more.  Remember to focus on all the things you are doing right (there are plenty of them) and just think how far you’ve come in just 4 weeks.

See you all next week.

Beginners Courses – Week 3

This week I gave you all a new set of challenges.  Some of you tried out materials and techniques which you’d never used before whilst others refined their accuracy and observation skills.  Thank you all for rising to the challenge even when it was really difficult!  It shows your commitment to learn and that’s really nice to see.  It’s important to experiment with new techniques to find out what works best for you.  Next week will be something different again – looking forward to it!

Wendy

P.S.  If anyone is in Leeds City Centre tomorrow “The Stalls” have a late night art market from local makers as part of the Light Night event.  From 3pm – 11pm on Briggate.  Click here for further details.

Beginners Courses – Week 2

Another exciting week with fantastic works of art being created!  It’s great to see all the different types of drawings and paintings you’re producing.  This weeks subjects have included elephants, Aboriginal Art, plants and manmade forms.  The standard of work for only week 2 of the courses has been fantastic.  Keep it up!

What a great start to the new term!  Well done to everyone for bringing along lots of enthusiasm to the first lessons.  Here are a few examples of the pictures you produced in all 4 courses.  You all did extremely well and it’s only the first lesson!  I’m looking forward to seeing what you can create next week.

See you soon.

Beginners Drawing Course 2 – Week 8

Sadly, we have now come to the end of the Beginners Drawing Course 2 and todays lesson was a chance to put into practise all the things you have learned so far.  It was a team effort today to each recreate a small section of an image and then piece our finished drawings together to form the whole picture.  This was a real test in accuracy for both proportion and tone.  You all worked really hard and the final assembled picture looked fantastic.  I hope you will all continue to practise the techniques you have learned over the past 8 weeks and I’ll look forward to seeing many of you in the September courses.

Bye for now.
