Courses – week 2

Hi folks

Another great week of artwork. In the “Animal 2” Beginners Mixed Media Course we got mean and moody with these dramatic drawings of wolves using scraperboard. The “Inspired 2” online course went right back to the 16th century Ottoman Empire for the inspiration for these Iznik ceramics paintings. The “Pencil & Paper 3” online drawing course veered away from observation drawing this week and produced some fantastic illuminated letters focusing on tone, shading and mark making. You’re all doing fantastically well, great work everyone!

Below are some of this week’s pictures and you can see more on our Instagram page at: @leedsartgroup.

See you soon

The “Inspired 2” online art course did some gorgeous Cézanne inspired oil pastel drawings and the “Pencil & Paper 3” online drawing course started with a classic – natural forms, and produced some beautiful tonal drawings.

Below are some of this week’s pictures and you can see more on our Instagram page at: @leedsartgroup.

Following the lesson you will also receive a link to a 30 minute recorded video of the whole picture being created by myself from start to finish in time lapse together with instructions along the way.

Information sheets

I will also email you an information sheet following the lesson with step by step instructions on how to create the picture.

Feedback/advice

Once you have produced your picture I would be happy to receive any photos of your work via email, text or WhatsApp and would gladly offer any advice or feedback that you might require.

Showing off

At Leeds Art Group we do like to show off our wonderful creations!  So if you send me a photo of your work there’s a good chance I will put it on our website or our Instagram page @leedsartgroup.  If you’d prefer me not to do this, just let me know.  Or if you’d prefer to do your own showing off then you can join the Leeds Art Group WhatsApp group so that you can all post your masterpieces on there whenever you like and see what the rest of the group are doing.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Courses – week 7

Hi everyone

In our final week of the “Flowers” Beginners Mixed Media Course we drew roses using soft pastels on Pastelmat paper and this time we were drawing from life rather than from a photograph. It’s a slightly different experience drawing from an actual object rather than a photograph. You have to make more of the decisions yourself regarding composition and scale and you have to really pay attention to your viewpoint and keep it consistent. So you were all working a bit more independently in this lesson but you were definitely ready for it as you can see from the pictures below. Brilliant work everyone and a great way to finish the course.

Below are some of this week’s pictures and you can see more on our Instagram page at: @leedsartgroup.

There also some live online Draw Alongs coming up in December. Full details can be found on the Courses for 2022 page. Please get in touch if you would like to book a place, by email: leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk or tel: 07788 871286.

Hope to see you soon.

Courses – week 6

Hi folks

This week in the “Flowers” Beginners Mixed Media Course we created these beautiful paintings of Plumeria flowers using watercolour pencils. The pencils can be used lightly for soft pastel tones but also with more pressure for intense areas of colour. Fantastic work everyone!

Courses – week 5

Hi everyone

This week the “Flowers” Beginners Mixed Media Course used charcoal to create these wonderfully dramatic drawings of roses. Turns out roses are pretty tricky to draw but it just goes to show what you can achieve when you push yourself just a little bit further. I’m so proud of you all for your perseverance!

For the final lesson in the “Inspired 7” Online Beginners Art Course we looked at the work of contemporary Dutch artist Ans Debije. It’s always good to remind ourselves that art is still being produced now and not just something from the past. Ans specialises in small still life objects often with reflective surfaces. Beautiful work everyone!

The “Inspired” online courses will return in January 2023. Details to follow soon!

Courses – week 4

Hi folks

This week in the “Flowers” Beginners Mixed Media Course we took some time to get back to basics and really focus on drawing skills. These coloured pencil drawings were perfect for practising observation, accuracy and precision.

The “Inspired 7” Online Beginners Art Course looked at a selection of Japanese, 19th century, woodblock prints by artist Kono Bairei and produced their own versions in watercolour.

Such beautiful, delicate drawings from both classes this week. Well done everyone.

Courses – week 3

Hi everyone

In week 3 of the “Flowers” Beginners Mixed Media Course we had a good hit of colour by using Derwent Inktense blocks to create these Pansy paintings. There’s definitely something a bit magical about how the colour goes on as a crayon and then you add water to turn it into paint. Thoroughly enjoyable! The task for the “Inspired 7” Online Beginners Art Course was quite the opposite. Creating these Egyptian style patterns was all about precision and accuracy, making sure the drawing was just right before adding the colour. A tricky one but you exceeded my expectations yet again. Fantastic work everyone, Well done.

Below are some of this week’s pictures and you can see more on our Instagram page at: @leedsartgroup.

No classes this week but classes will resume on Monday 31st October 🎃.

See you all soon.

Courses – week 2

Hi folks

This week in the “Flowers” Beginners Mixed Media Course we painted these wonderfully sunny and uplifting Rudbeckia flowers using watercolour. People often underestimate how difficult watercolour can be. It takes a fair bit of planning. So well done to all of you for creating such fantastic paintings. In the “Inspired 7” Online Beginners Art Course we were inspired by Paul Gauguin and his brightly coloured oil paintings. We used oil pastels instead which take a long time but are definitely worth the effort. Fabulous work everyone, keep it up!

Courses – week 1

Hi everyone

Great to be back getting arty with you all again both online and in person. The “Flowers” Beginners Mixed Media Course produced some fantastic soft pastel drawings of Peonies. Always good to get messy on day one! The “Inspired 7” Online Beginners Art Course looked at Raoul Dufy’s work to create these gorgeous, brightly coloured, watercolour paintings of a beach in Nice. A “Nice” reminder of sunny days as the weather starts to change. A brilliant start to the new term everyone! Well done.

See you next week
