This week was our final lesson in the “Animal 2” Beginners Mixed MediaCourse and we finished in flamboyant style with these magnificent peacock paintings! We used Derwent Inktense Blocks for the main painting with some charcoal pencil for the details. What a great way to finish the course. Thanks for all your fantastic artwork this term. More classes coming soon!

Lovely leopards were our subject this week in the “Animal 2” Beginners Mixed MediaCourse. We used a prepared paper painted with an acrylic wash to create the colour element of the picture. Then used black drawing ink with a dip pen and white Posca pen to add the tone. Such a gorgeous animal and you all did it justice. Well done!
If you want to see a video of my leopard drawing with full instructions then sign up to my Patreon page by clicking on the following link. There are also 7 more videos to watch with at least 2 new posts every month.
In the “Animal 2” Beginners Mixed MediaCourse we drew these beautiful peacock butterflies using soft pastel. A very messy medium but you can create some lovely colourful effects. In the final lesson of the “Inspired 2” online course we looked at the work of Edgar Degas, also using soft pastel and focusing on subtle colour mixing. In the “Pencil & Paper 3” online drawing course we used everything we’ve learned so far in the course and drew it all in one box. Brilliant work everyone, well done! Shame this is the last week of the online courses for now but more coming soon!

This week the “Animal 2” Beginners Mixed MediaCourse created these colourful cows using oil pastel and really experimented with colour mixing. In the “Inspired 2” online course we celebrated (a little belatedly) Chinese New Year using watercolour and other media including collage, to make fabulous patterned paintings. The “Pencil & Paper 3” online drawing course had one of the hardest subjects to draw this week – reflective objects. So well done for rising to the challenge. Great work everyone, well done!

For week 3 of the “Animal 2” Beginners Mixed MediaCourse it was time to get messy with charcoal. A great medium for creating texture and there was plenty of it on these amazing iguanas! Not wanting to be left out, the “Inspired 2” online course also used charcoal to create some fantastic, delicate drawings based on the photography of Karl Blossfeldt. The “Pencil & Paper 3” online drawing course used everything we’ve practiced so far to produce drawings of bags, focusing on tone, shape and shading. Such beautiful drawings everyone. Hope you’re all enjoying our little break this week. Looking forward to seeing all your pictures again when we’re back in class next week.

Another great week of artwork. In the “Animal 2” Beginners Mixed MediaCourse we got mean and moody with these dramatic drawings of wolves using scraperboard. The “Inspired 2” online course went right back to the 16th century Ottoman Empire for the inspiration for these Iznik ceramics paintings. The “Pencil & Paper 3” online drawing course veered away from observation drawing this week and produced some fantastic illuminated letters focusing on tone, shading and mark making. You’re all doing fantastically well, great work everyone!

It is good to be back in class again after our Christmas break with more online and face to face classes for 2023. The “Animal 2” Beginners Mixed MediaCourse kicked off the term with these fab watercolour pencil drawings of fish. The “Inspired 2” online art course did some gorgeous Cézanne inspired oil pastel drawings and the “Pencil & Paper 3” online drawing course started with a classic – natural forms, and produced some beautiful tonal drawings.
