“Inspired” – Week 7 & Virtual Exhibition!

Hi everyone

This week was sadly the last lesson on the current “Inspired” course but we finished with a blaze of colour in these sunset paintings inspired by the work of Leonid Afremov.  What gorgeous pictures to brighten up those cold, dark, November nights.

Don’t forget, you can now book for the January online courses.  Further information can be found on the Courses for 2021 page by clicking here.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the Virtual Exhibition tonight (Monday 30th November at 6pm – 7pm) and reviewing lots of the work you’ve created during this strange year of 2020.

“Inspired” – Week 6 & Virtual Exhibition!

Hi folks

This week’s task was based on the work on William Morris.  Another chance to use a wide range of colours but we also needed to show control and precision in our paintings to create that Morris look.  You all rose to the challenge once again and produced beautiful pictures.  Lots of material for our Virtual Exhibition next week.

If you haven’t sent me your photos yet and would like to show your work in the exhibition then please make sure you get them to me by this coming Thursday 26th November.  Here are the details again.

On Monday 30th November at 6pm – 7pm we will be holding our first ever virtual exhibition and all Leeds Art Group members are invited to attend and/or exhibit even if you aren’t currently taking part in any courses.

Simply send me a photo of your work by Thursday 26th November and I will put together a slide show of all the work for us all to view during the meeting/exhibition.  Let me know via email if you want to attend/take part and I will send you the full details along with the Zoom meeting link.  Hope you can join us.

See you next week.

“Inspired” – Week 5 & Virtual Exhibition!

Hi everyone

This week we took on soft pastels – possibly one of the messiest mediums but worth it!  Monet’s classic “Japanese Footbridge” painting was our inspiration and gave us lots of scope for colour mixing and mark making.  Great work everyone!  Maybe we could even see some more of those pictures in……wait for it……the first EVER Leeds Art Group Virtual Exhibition!

So what if we can’t have a proper exhibition this year?  We can still all get together on Zoom to show our work.

On Monday 30th November at 6pm – 7pm we will be holding our first ever virtual exhibition and all Leeds Art Group members are invited to attend and/or exhibit even if you aren’t currently taking part in any courses.

“Inspired” – Week 4

Hi folks

We went monochrome this week!  After last week’s colour bonanza I thought it would be good to see what you can do with just black and white and you did not let me down!  You created these amazing drawings based on Maori patterns using just black pen.  Beautiful drawings everyone, great work.

Here are some photos of this weeks work, for more photos visit our instagram page @leedsartgroup.

See you soon.

“Inspired” – Week 3

Hi everyone

This week we had fun cutting and sticking with these collages inspired by Matisse’s Cut Outs.  Plenty of opportunity to unleash your creativity with this one and with some wonderful results!  I love how you’ve all interpreted the same task in your own unique ways and I’ve also loved seeing all those bright colours and bold shapes.  Just what we need when the nights are getting darker – a good splash of colour to cheer us all up!  Fantastic work everyone, well done.

“Inspired” – Week 2

Hi folks

A very colourful week this week.  We looked at the stained glass work of Louis Comfort Tiffany and used his  style to translate our own pictures of flowers into watercolour paintings.  Some really beautiful paintings everyone with such vibrant colours!  Worthy of any Art Nouveau lampshade.  Hope you all enjoyed painting them.

Here are some photos of this weeks work, for more photos visit our instagram page @leedsartgroup.

See you all next week.

Hi again

I almost forgot to say a big thank you to you all on behalf of The Trussell Trust who provide vital foodbanks across the UK.  Through donating 10% of your course fees to the trust, together we’ve managed to raise £161!  It’s lovely to know Leeds Art Group have done our bit to help a few people put Christmas dinner on the table this year.  So thank you all for being lovely!

“Inspired” – Week 1

Hi everyone

Welcome back for a new term and a brand new course and this time we get to use colour – hurray!  This week we used mostly oil pastels to create our own versions of Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”.  What fantastic drawings you’ve all been sending me!  I’ve loved seeing your pictures this week and it sounds like you’ve enjoyed this task, it certainly shows in your work.  Well done everyone.  Even more colour next week!

“Pencil and Paper” Part 4 – Week 5 & new courses starting October 2020!

Hi folks

This week was sadly the last week of the current term but you pulled out all the stops and put everything you’ve learned into your drawings.  This week we used items from the bathroom as our subject.  All those different bottles, tubes and brushes in various shapes, sizes, tones and textures gave us a lot to work with.  Fantastic work everyone!  I can really see how much observation and consideration you’ve put into these drawings.  You’ve taken everything we’ve covered in the course and put it into practice.  Great stuff!

Here are some photos of this weeks work, for more photos visit our instagram page @leedsartgroup.

Don’t forget, the next online courses “Inspired” Online Beginners Art Course will be starting on Monday 12th October 2020 and this time we’ll get to use some colour!  So get in touch if you would like to book a place.  Full course details can be found on the Courses for 2020 page by clicking here.  If you have any questions you can contact me by email at:  leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk or tel:  07788 871286.

“Pencil and Paper” Part 4 – Week 4 & new courses starting October 2020!

Hi everyone

This week we were concentrating on the small things in life.  Taking small objects of any description and drawing them larger than life.  This was a chance to practice using your observation skills to notice all those tiny details that can sometimes be overlooked in larger drawings.  You produced some fantastic drawings with really interesting objects and compositions.  Great work everyone! For more photos of this weeks work, visit our instagram page @leedsartgroup.

Next week is the last lesson of the current courses and then we’ll have a short break but the next online courses “Inspired” Online Beginners Art Course will be starting on Monday 12th October 2020 and this time we’ll get to use some colour!  So get in touch if you would like to book a place.  Full course details can be found on the Courses for 2020 page by clicking here.  If you have any questions you can contact me by email at:  leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk or tel:  07788 871286.
