I just wanted to say a big thank to all of you who are currently taking part in Leeds Art Group online courses. By donating 10% of your course fees we have together raised £157.50 for Leeds Women’s Aid who provide refuge for vulnerable women in need. Your contributions will make a huge difference to someone’s life when they need it the most. So thank you again.
It’s so good to have you all back after a couple of weeks break. It feels like spring has sprung since our last lesson. So what better way to start the “Inspired 4” course than with these roses based on a painting by Renoir? We focused on colour mixing and creating contrasts. The “Pencil & Paper 2” course started by drawing chairs and looking at all the negative spaces inbetween the spindles and legs as well as how the light falls on the object.
A brilliant start to the course everyone! I can’t wait to see what else you can do.
Easter is on it’s way and to celebrate you’ve been drawing these beautiful decorated egg designs based on traditional Ukrainian “Pysanky” eggs. The real eggs would normally be decorated using a wax resist technique but we used watercolour pencils which are great for creating all those intricate details and bright colours. Fantastic work everyone and a great finish to the current “Inspired 3” course.
We’ve now got a short break over Easter but the “Inspired 4” course and the “Pencil & Paper 2” course will be starting in the week commencing Monday 19th April (exactly a year after our very first online lesson!). For full course details go to our Courses for 2021 page. If you have any questions or would like to book a place please get in touch either by email: leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk or tel: 07788 871286.

Thank you to everyone who has joined me for the past 5 weeks.
Just posting the pictures from week 3’s Mary Fedden inspired collages again as they seem to have disappeared off the website and they definitely deserve to be on here!

This week we were looking at the sculptures and drawings of Henry Moore. We used soft pastel and focused on tone and proportion but your pictures also included colour, observation and texture. Brilliant work everyone. I always love to see how different your individual takes are on the same theme.
Next week is the last lesson of this current course but don’t worry – there are more on the way! Also, I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who is currently taking part in the courses. By donating 10% of your course fees we have together raised £147.50 for the RSPCA who are facing an even greater demand for their services due to problems resulting from the Covid crisis. It’s good to know that just by making art we are helping all those animals in need. For more information about the work they do visit their website at: www.rspca.org.uk/home.
It’s great to be back with a brand new course and what better way to kick things off than with a whole load of colour? For our first lesson we looked to Kandinsky for inspiration and his “Colour Study. Squares with Concentric Circles”. You all certainly embraced colour and created these fantastic watercolour paintings. What a great start to the course, well done everyone!

It’s hard to believe that this is the last week of the course already. It’s flown by in a flurry of colour and wonderful pictures and this week was no exception. In the “Inspired 2” course we looked at the work of Edgar Degas and you produced these fantastic soft pastel drawings. The “Pencil and Paper 1” course had the ultimate challenge – portraits! Not of just anyone though, portraits of those people who have meant so much to you during these crazy past 12 months and have helped you get through it. A great finish to the course everyone and not long to wait until the next course starts!
The next term will be starting on Monday 1st March. Full course details can be found on the Courses for 2021 page by clicking here. If you have any questions or would like to book a place please get in touch by email: leedsartgroup@yahoo.co.uk or tel: 07788 8741286.

This week the “Inspired 2” course were celebrating Chinese New Year in these fantastic paintings of the Chinese Zodiac animals. All those bright, warm colours are just what we need right now. The “Pencil and Paper 1” course focused on scale and took small objects and images and enlarged them using a viewfinder. Great work everyone!

This week in the “Inspired 2” course we looked at the photography of Karl Blossfeldt and you created these amazing, atmospheric, charcoal drawings of natural forms. The “Pencil and Paper 1” course were drawing folds in cloth to practise how to use tone to show form. Seems like a simple task but it’s a real toughie! Well done to all of you for your hard effort and wonderful drawings this week.
