Time for a bit of colour this week in the “Inspired 6” course and the work of Georgia O’Keeffe provided our inspiration. We used oil pastel to create these vibrant pictures and really focused on colour mixing, blending and contrasting. Fantastic work everyone! Oil pastel isn’t the easiest medium to get to grips with but you all did great.

This week in the “Inspired 6” course we looked at “The Brooch” – a lithograph by Edvard Munch from 1903. We used water soluble graphite sticks to create all those sweeping curves of the hair and expressive, scratchy marks. The graphite magically turns into paint when you add water. It’s a great medium to use, hope you all enjoyed it.

Great to have you all back in 2022! We kicked off the “Inspired 6” course with these lovely soft pastel drawings based on work by Impressionist artist Mary Cassatt. A great start to the course everybody!

This was the last Draw Along of 2021 and what a lovely picture to finish on? It was a difficult task but I think you all did our donkey proud. Great fur texture and a lovely head shape. Great work everyone and thank you for continuing to amaze me with your wonderful pictures.

This week, Claude Monet’s “Houses of Parliament” from 1904 was the perfect glowing image for our first time using colour in our Draw Alongs. We used soft pastel to create these vibrant sunsets. Fantastic work everyone and thanks for the feedback, glad you are all enjoying the Draw Alongs.

Wow! What amazing drawings you did in this week’s “Water Lily” Draw Along! I was so impressed with how you all used the different tones so well to create contrasts and how well you observed the image we were working from. Beautiful drawings everyone, be really proud of these.

For the final week of the “Inspired 1” course we finished with a blaze of colour. Inspired by both the gorgeous sunsets we have at this time of year and also by the paintings of Leonid Afremov. You created these vibrant sunset paintings and really experimented with your colour mixing. Well done everyone!

This week the “Inspired 1” course looked at the work of William Morris. Lots of complicated, intertwining shapes and plenty of colours filling the space. These are difficult patterns to replicate and it requires a certain amount of control in your drawing but you’ve produced these beautifully drawn and painted pictures that really show how much care you put into your work. For the final lesson in the “Pencil & Paper3” course we looked at everything we’ve learned so far: tone, shading, proportion, shape and a bit of perspective and texture thrown in for good measure. Well done to all of you for taking on the challenge and for completing the course. It’s been great for me to see how you’ve progressed over the past 5 lessons. Well done.
