Draw Along – “Water Lily”

Hi everyone

Wow! What amazing drawings you did in this week’s “Water Lily” Draw Along! I was so impressed with how you all used the different tones so well to create contrasts and how well you observed the image we were working from. Beautiful drawings everyone, be really proud of these.

Below are some of this week’s pictures and you can see more on our Instagram page at: @leedsartgroup

The courses may have finished for this year but there are still online “Draw Alongs” if you want to get involved. Full details are on our Courses for 2021 page here: https://leedsartgroup.co.uk/courses/

“Inspired 1” – week 7

Hi folks

For the final week of the “Inspired 1” course we finished with a blaze of colour. Inspired by both the gorgeous sunsets we have at this time of year and also by the paintings of Leonid Afremov. You created these vibrant sunset paintings and really experimented with your colour mixing. Well done everyone!

“Inspired 1” – week 6 and “Pencil & Paper 3” – week 5

Hi everyone

This week the “Inspired 1” course looked at the work of William Morris. Lots of complicated, intertwining shapes and plenty of colours filling the space. These are difficult patterns to replicate and it requires a certain amount of control in your drawing but you’ve produced these beautifully drawn and painted pictures that really show how much care you put into your work. For the final lesson in the “Pencil & Paper3” course we looked at everything we’ve learned so far: tone, shading, proportion, shape and a bit of perspective and texture thrown in for good measure. Well done to all of you for taking on the challenge and for completing the course. It’s been great for me to see how you’ve progressed over the past 5 lessons. Well done.

Inspired 1 – week 5

Hi folks

This week in the “Inspired 1” course we looked to Claude Monet for our inspiration. With so many of his paintings to go at it’s great to see all your different takes on the subject. Soft pastel was our medium this week and it’s a tough one to get used to but definitely worth having a few goes at it and with a bit of practise you’ll see results. Well done for persevering in even when the going gets tough.

Courses – week 4 and “Lion” Draw Along

Hi everyone

What great work you’ve been doing this past week. You’re all really putting the effort in and it’s paying off. The “Inspired 1” course took Maori patterns as their inspiration for these intricate pen drawings. The “Pencil and Paper 3” course had a really tough one this week – reflections! Reflective objects are one of the hardest things to draw and you all did great. In this week’s Draw Along we had the “King of the Jungle” to work from with this fabulous regal Lion as our subject. Fantastic drawings everyone, well done.

“Flower” Draw Along

Hi folks

Well done to everyone who joined the live online “Draw Along” this week. The image we worked from was a photograph by Karl Blossfeldt. We focused on how to create different tones and how to use contrasts in tone to create these fantastic drawings. Brilliant work everyone. It’s really great being able to all draw together in real time even if we aren’t in the same room. I hope you’re enjoying these Draw Alongs as much as I am.

Below are some of the drawings produced during the lesson and more can be seen on our Instagram page @leedsartgroup

Courses – week 3

Hi folks

This week was collage week in the “Inspired 1” course and we took inspiration from Matisse’s colourful cut outs. Well done to all of you for just going for it and enjoying the process as much as the outcome. The “Pencil and Paper 3” course were practising their control of different tones and how we can use tone to describe surfaces. Fabulous work everyone, keep it up!

Hi everyone

This week the “Inspired 1” course looked at the stained glass work of Louis Comfort Tiffany and created these vibrantly colourful paintings. In the “Pencil and Paper 3” course we explored all the different effects we could achieve using just pencil for these illuminated letters covered in different patterns, shapes, marks and tones. Brilliant work everyone. I hope you’re all enjoying the courses.

Courses – week 1 and new Draw Alongs

Hi folks

It’s good to be back after our Summer break and great to see all your pictures again. In the “Inspired 1” course we took the expressive paintings of Van Gogh as our starting point and in the “Pencil and Paper 3” we went with a classic – still life (natural forms). Well done everyone, a fantastic start to the new term.
