In this course you will learn how to draw a variety of animals e.g. leopard, wolf, etc. in a wide range of media (pencil, paint, pastel, etc.) from photographs. Each week we will tackle a different animal and use a series of simple steps to gradually build up a picture. The course will give you the basic skills you need to help you continue with your drawings in the future.
This course is designed for beginners and is ideal for animal lovers or anyone who would like to improve their drawing/painting skills whilst experimenting with a variety of materials.
Please note: You do not need to have completed the Beginners Animal Portraiture Course 1 in order to do this course. The ability level is the same but the course content will be different.

The course will explore a range of different media including watercolour, oil pastel, charcoal, etc. Alternative media suggestions will be given for each lesson, so if you don’t have the specific materials used in the example, you will still be able to have a go at the tasks. All courses are stand alone courses and are aimed at beginners.
Online Lesson Format
Lessons
The lessons will be delivered via a 30 minute online live chat/demonstration in which I will explain each task and you will be able to ask any questions. We will use “Zoom”, an online web conferencing program and you will be sent a link on how to download this with your booking confirmation. Zoom is free and you don’t need to set up an account. You will be sent a link before the start of the course which can be used each week to take you straight to the lesson.
Recorded video
Following the lesson you will also receive a link to a 30 minute recorded video of the whole picture being created by myself from start to finish in time lapse together with instructions along the way.
Information sheets
I will also email you an information sheet following the lesson with step by step instructions on how to create the picture.
Feedback/advice
Once you have produced your picture I would be happy to receive any photos of your work via email, text or WhatsApp and would gladly offer any advice or feedback that you might require.
Showing off
At Leeds Art Group we do like to show off our wonderful creations! So if you send me a photo of your work there’s a good chance I will put it on our website or our Instagram page @leedsartgroup. If you’d prefer me not to do this, just let me know. Or if you’d prefer to do your own showing off then you can join the Leeds Art Group WhatsApp group so that you can all post your masterpieces on there whenever you like and see what the rest of the group are doing.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Wendy
